What's Your Function?
Some art is best appreciated on a wall from a distance. Other forms are best experienced when worn, sat on, or eaten off of. That is the premise of Altered Esthetics' latest exhibition, "What's Your Function?" The group show features over 25 artists who create functional items with extra creativity. For instance, Chelsea LaPorta's curved-metal chairs would fit in at a modern-art museum as easily as they would a personal office space. Roxie Speth's painted plates feature paper airplanes, foxes, and dinosaurs, and serve as a cheery endpoint to any meal. Other pieces on display include jewelry, ceramics, and textiles. The opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, October 5, features mobile art as well with art cars on display outside. There will also be an artists' discussion panel at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 20. (Chelsea LaPorta, Curved Chair)
