West Bank Music Festival
Continuing a tradition of scoring thought-provoking rappers — past years brought Dessa and Astronautalis — the fourth West Bank Music Festival boasts Brother Ali (pictured) as its featured performer. The outspoken social activist was often dead-serious on last year's politically charged Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color, but an Ali show is always a mix of food for the mind and beats to move the body. The day-long fest will take over outdoor stages on Cedar Avenue and many bars — Whiskey Junction, Acadia Cafe, Red Sea, Nomad World Pub, Triple Rock Social Club, Southern Theater, the Cabooze, and Palmer's — along the street. The day's lineup also includes Doomtree rapper Mike Mictlan, Mark Mallman, Southside Desire, Haphduzn, and the Hotpants DJs. (Photo by Marshall Franklin)
