Wayne McGregor: Random Dance
U.K.-based Random Dance starts the Northrop Dance Season off with a Brit-style bang indicative of the fresh energy NDS director Ben Johnson is bringing to the Northrop's staid proscenium. Wayne McGregor's "Entity" is a massive collaboration between bodies (the ferociously athletic Random dancers) and brains (psychologists, neuroscientists, and software engineers) on the subject of, well, how one relates to the other. Not that this is a head-trip. Dancers rip through a jungle of very hip lighting and multi-screen film/video installations, all to a soundscape created by Coldplay and Massive Attack collaborator Jon Hopkins and composer John Talbot. It's totally beyond cutting edge. (photo by Ravi Deepres)
