While the newly renovated Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is still far from completion, the Walker Art Center has something to celebrate right now. The new main entrance, which faces the Garden, offers a bright and cheery welcome to visitors of the museum. The Walker has also unveiled some brand-new acquisitions, including X, a sculpture by Liz Larner, right outside the entrance; a restaurant, Esker Grove, opening in December that will feature rotating art commissions; and a mini shop. The Walker will also soon unveil artist Philippe Parreno’s indoor-outdoor three-part installation of active sculptures to be found at the new Wurtele Upper Garden entrance. This week, the Walker celebrates all these changes with an open house featuring tours, music, cocktails, art activities, performances, and a talk by project architects. See the renovations for yourself, listen to the neoclassical groove trio Saltee, watch experimental short films, and raise a glass to new beginnings.
