Walk to End Hunger
Thursday is probably not the day you are planning to spend in the mall. And, traditionally, people who spend their Thanksgiving Day doing charity work do it in a soup kitchen. Yes, helping out at a food pantry by serving a holiday dinner is a great thing to do, but volunteer slots for Christmas and Thanksgiving often fill up months in advance, so we suggest that volunteers donate time on other days of the year (why not weekly or monthly?). The Walk to End Hunger fundraiser is a collaboration between several Twin Cities organizations striving to end hunger in Minneapolis/St. Paul by 2013. Food-relief groups include Second Harvest Heartland, Minnesota Food Share, the Emergency Foodshelf Network, and others. Sign up early online or show up the day of to participate in this 5k walk, which winds its way throughout the mall and includes pit stops with special entertainment along the way. For more info call 612.807.2228 or visit www.walktoendhunger.org. $25/$30 onsite registration; $35/$40 families. (Photo by Laurgasms)
