It's spring! Time to get naked. Well, not really, but at Cult Status's "Vital Flesh" show there will be plenty of nudity in art form to enjoy. Five Minneapolis figurative painters will tackle the ever luminous, mysterious, and complex subject of the human body in an exhibition that embraces the long-standing tradition of nude figurative painting while offering a contemporary take on the form. Among the highlights will be the work of Caitlin Karolczak, a darling of the Twin Cities arts community, who can be relied on to show some disturbing and beautiful pieces. Karolczak mines historical drawings and other artifacts to create sometimes shocking and grotesque works that are painstakingly detailed. She will have several works on display that she's never shown publicly before, including at least one new large painting. Also featured in the exhibition are J.M. Culver, Jamie Cook, Luke Tromiczak, and Luke Hillestad, who is also showing work at Rogue Buddha Gallery through May 5.
Fri., April 27, 7-10 p.m., 2012
