Vince Vaughn’s Comedy Roadshow

A half-decade ago, Swingers breakout star and comic actor Vince Vaughn hosted a 30-day standup tour that was filmed for the 2006 documentary/concert film The Wild West Comedy Show. In addition to featuring a slew of celebrity guests, the production helped launch the careers of Egyptian comic Ahmed Ahmed and the now ubiquitous John Caparulo. Continuing with that theme, Vaughn is coming to town with a new incarnation of the show, but this time instead of lesser known, up-and-coming performers, he's bringing out the big guns. Vaughn will emcee a night of sketch and standup featuring several special guests, most notably Owen Benjamin, Steve Byrne, and Nick Swardson. Benjamin is a regular on The Tonight Show and Chelsea Lately, and Byrne riffs on his half-Irish, half-Korean ancestry in his own hour-long Comedy Central special, The Byrne Identity. The big treat here is Swardson, the Twin Cities hometown hero and frequent Adam Sandler collaborator. The first season of his Comedy Central sketch show, Pretend Time with Nick Swardson, is currently airing, and next year he'll appear in a pair of Sandler-produced movies, one a romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston and the megastar himself, Just Go with It, and another featuring Swardson in his first starring role, the aptly titled Born to Be a Star. Swardson suggested in a recent City Pages interview that he's pondering quitting the stage to focus on writing and acting, so the chances to see this standup phenom in action may be dwindling.
