Videotect 3: The City of the Future
This Thursday, the Videotect competition returns to the Walker Art Center. For the past three years, local magazine Architecture Minnesota has invited creative types to make short films based on a broad topic. The videos are then posted online, where voters can select their favorite flicks. This year's theme, "the City of the Future," asks folks to contemplate what the future holds for urban areas and their residents. One piece featured explores the potential of creating cities where nature could flourish amid the concrete, another does a bang-up job spoofing Star Trek, while another work pokes fun at the absurd things that could happen if the bulk of the working population shifted to telecommuting. There's also a few animated pieces that are neat to watch and effective at getting their point across. Vote for your favorites at www.architecturemn.com/am/videotect, then see them again on the big screen. (Pictured: "Virtual Office")
