Uptown/Loring Park/Powderhorn Art Festivals

Folks who love outdoor art fairs should be in heaven this weekend, as three huge ones – Uptown Art Fair, Loring Park Art Fair, and Powderhorn Art Fair – are taking place in Minneapolis. The Uptown Art Fair, which is celebrating its 50th year this summer, is the largest of the group, and the longest, as it kicks off on Friday. During the weekend, over 375,000 festival-goers will be in attendance to take in pieces by over 350 national artists working in mediums such as kinetic sculpture, jewelry, travel photography, and paint. Other special happenings include a youth-art showcase, hands-on art activities hosted by the Northern Clay Center, beer and wine gardens in the Old Chicago parking lot, and the Kitchen Window's Culinary Art Competition, where chefs and artists will team up to create food that looks as good as it tastes. Those planning to ride to the event can check their bicycles in at the Nice Ride Minnesota station on Humboldt, near the Midtown Greenway entrance, where the organization will be offering free valet parking. Looking to attend via bus? Visit MetroTransit's website to print out a free pass that works for rides on Saturday and Sunday.
