For SooVAC's eighth annual juried exhibition, guest curator Bartholomew Ryan—whose day job is assistant curator at the Walker Art Center—has assembled provocative works by eight artists at play in a mélange of mediums and forms. From the exquisite detail of Erin Hernsberger's postmodern photography to Jehra Patrick's architectural spatial transgressions, these works challenge the viewer's preconceived ideas of space—personal and public. Our relationships with other species are also explored in Kate Casanova's chillingly compelling body sculptures. And Laura Hallen's transpositions of fabric into material picture/sculpture draw the viewer in for a closer look. Similarly, works by Emily Beck, Donna Dralle, Erika Hanson, and Steven Lang entice and repel, forcing us to contemplate our emotional navigation of the everyday. The opening reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 9. (Erin Hernsberger, Honeycomb Stomach and Cow Testicle)
