Tyte Jeff EP release

It's been six long years since Twin Cities post-punk band the Plastic Constellations' joyful swan song, We Appreciate You. Now ex-TPC cog Jeff Allen returns with a wizened wit and hooks to spare as Tyte Jeff. Allen's new outfit trades in spiky electric guitars for piano-led folk rock, but retains the skewed vocals and boisterous group battle cries that made his old band such fist-pumping fun. Their self-titled debut EP features Allen's rueful ruminations on aging ("We never think when we grow up/That we'll push paper around or meekly bow down/No kids ever daydream of underwriting loans or answering phones all day long") alongside satirical self-critiques ("Watch these rockist dads/Chucks and Vans, plain and square/Finger-waggin' at those synthy kids, pining for the way things used to be/Oh wait that's me") with dazzling skill. With Valet, the Ronnie Buxtons.
