Twin Cities Literary Death Match
Imagine what would happen if you crossed American Idol with a literary event, then add a few pints of beer for good measure. Now you've got the gist of what Literary Death Match is about. At this raucous reading, folks will get to know local authors in a high-energy atmosphere. Writers will be given seven minutes each to perform—not read—their strongest works onstage, which will then be evaluated by a panel of chatty judges. Participants this go-round include Peter Bognanni (The House of Tomorrow), Rob Callahan (Damaged Goods), slam poet Cole "Inky" Sarar, and Becky Lang, founder of the Tangential website. Documentary filmmaker Emily Goldberg, Leslie Ball (founder of Balls open mic night at the Southern Theater), and painter/curator Nic Harper will be judging and sharing words of wisdom. Eventually, the group of four will dwindle down to two, and there will be a final battle of words for literary dominance.
