Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota: Wizard of Oz
"Follow the Yellow Brick Road" meets "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" in this all-dance version of L. Frank Baum's classic tale. Featuring an original music compilation (no songs or music from the film version), this rendition draws from a range of composers including Tchaikovsky, Debussy, and Khatchaturian. Choreographer Denise Vogt mines the rich vein of classical ballet, but also incorporates modern dance for the cyclone and those nasty winged monkeys, and a jazz hoedown for the Scarecrow. There's a prologue in a Kansas schoolyard (the mean schoolmistress later morphs into the Wicked Witch), and a Cowardly Lion freed from a sleazy circus. The performers include professional dancers, adorable kids, and a live dog playing Toto. For tickets and more info, visit www.twincitiesballet.org.
