TU Dance: TU10/10th Anniversary Season
The TU Dance repertory specializes in works that demand electrifying articulation and a triathlon-level physicality. Ballet moves punctuate undulating torsos and African dance-inspired isolations as dancers flow like molten lava. It's dancing that's both sleek and raw, feline and voracious. For their 10th anniversary season, artistic directors Toni-Pierce Sands and Uri Sands give us a program that features world-premiere works by New York choreographers Dwight Rhoden and Gregory Dolbashian; the Minnesota premiere of Alonzo King's primeval duet "Rasa," set to an original score by tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain; and Uri Sands's haunting "January (Part 2)." The title of Dolbashian's new work, "Keep the Edges Wild," could stand as a mantra for this dynamic company, whose members dance as if their lives depended on it. (Photo by Ingrid Werthmann)
