We've all witnessed it: relentless and quickly escalating comments from internet trolls who get under our skin more than we'd like to admit. Travis Nichols's newest book, The More You Ignore Me (Coffee House Press), is a chuckle-fest from the point of view of an internet troll who sabotages a couple's wedding blog. This troll goes by linksys181, as well as other faux identities that he uses on various message boards. Things start off with an impassioned and lengthy rant from linksys181 about how he has been wrongly banned from Charli and Nico's wedding blog for his ridiculous commentary. His claim? He's convinced that Charli, the bride, is being wooed by the groom's not-so-stellar brother, and is determined to meddle by any means possible. Sounds too crazy for real life, you say? Not so. The author found inspiration for this novel from an experience he had as editor of Poetry Foundation's blog, Harriet. At this public conversation, Nichols will commiserate on internet community etiquette with Stephanie Curtis, the online editor of Minnesota Public Radio's The Daily Circuit. He has previously published two other poetry collections, in addition to the novel Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder. Arrive at 5 p.m. to mingle with the literary community over beers and enjoy happy-hour deals. If you're feeling adventurous, email firstname.lastname@example.org for a chance to have Nichols troll your own blog.
