Trailer Park Boys: Drunk, High and Unemployed Tour

Since mockumentaries have been around for quite a while, someone probably used the genre's tropes and techniques on television before the Trailer Park Boys. But the fact that it managed to beat Ricky Gervais's U.K. version of The Office to the air by several months back in 2001 seems like it should count for something. The show, which ran for seven seasons on Canada's Showcase network, employed a lo-fi COPS style of filmmaking that perfectly matched the chaos of the characters' white-trash lives and paired it with all the earnest irony of a Christopher Guest creation. Add two feature films and a growing track record of unique live shows to their résumé, and the Trailer Park Boys deserve to be considered one of the most prolific and versatile comedy ensembles of the millennium. In July they debuted the Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour, a six-episode sketch program that allowed them to demonstrate what they can do with an actual budget (spoiler alert: they spent most of it on facial prosthetics). The live shows are often rowdy affairs that feature a combination of sketch, video, music, and participation from Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles's rabid fan base. Expect to see plenty of marijuana T-shirts and a Green Bastard lookalike or two.
