As many a college student can attest, getting buzzed on beer and playing video games is an excellent and entertaining way to kill an evening. This weekend, folks will have two opportunities to do so in public thanks to Tipsy Pixels. Each event will feature a bracketed tournament where players will compete against each other for top bragging rights. Friday night's inaugural Tipsy Pixels East at Amsterdam (6 W. Sixth St., St. Paul; 651.222.3990) is all about Mario Kart 64, a classic game in which Princess Peach, Toad, King Koopa, Luigi, and the rest of the gang race against each other in deserts, castles, and on the precariously difficult (and colorful!) Rainbow Road. Sunday night's party at the Triple Rock Social Club (629 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis; 612.333.7399) goes even more old-school with the once-controversial Mortal Kombat II. Be sure to memorize those special finishing moves beforehand if you're planning on ripping out some spinal cords.
