Tipsy Pixels 5: Mario Kart 64 Redux
Gaming at Tipsy Pixels, a monthly, bracketed tournament at the Triple Rock, means returning to a purer time, a time when your sole duty was dispatching King Koopa before mom called you to dinner. Hosted by Nels Lennes of HUGE Theater, and founded by Pete Basgen and Art Allen, Tipsy Pixels celebrates old-timey video games. Meaning the 16-, 32-, and 64-bit entertainment systems that killed our summer afternoons in the days before mortgages, grocery lists, and car payments. Fortunately, because we are now adults, we can slam a beer as our finely timed red shell beheads Toad. This month's TP selection is Mario Kart 64, a game that many consider the series' pinnacle. Nearing first place on Wario Stadium as the crowd cheers you on might just be the most adrenaline-filled, shaky-handed moment of your January.
