Tim Harmston

Minneapolis native Tim Harmston will be returning home for a run of shows at Acme Comedy Co. over the Thanksgiving holiday week. His wife Mary Mack, another veteran of the Minneapolis comedy scene, will feature. The couple are currently living in Los Angeles. "We came out here for six months to do shows, pitch ideas, and do what you do in L.A.," he explains. "You've got to make your own magic sometimes. The other appeal of Los Angeles of course is no winter." Since Harmston got married, his material has, not surprisingly, featured more relationship jokes. "Sometimes we'll even perform together," he says. "When you're married to someone who is a comedian, they're having a lot of the same insights into the relationship as you, but from completely different angles." With Mack's unique style, there's a definite counterbalance. "I'm also talking about the stuff I've always talked about, like politics and tension in our society. I don't have one single topic I'm known for; I'm all over the map." That, he reasons, helps him from being pigeon-holed. "It keeps you from being marketed as the 'Redneck Guy.' My audiences appreciate a bunch of different topics, and I want an audience that comes out and lets me take them to weird places. I don't want the audience to show up with any preconceived notions." 18+.
