The Wedding Singer
The 1980s had their particular brand of oddness, feeling much like a slice of plastic fromage in real time, let alone in retrospect. Pong, The A-Team, the Rubik's Cube, the Thompson Twins...it seemed for a while there as though the national culture had been permanently transformed into a self-consciously arch imitation of itself. Now, of course, it's the good old days, and The Wedding Singer applies Broadway-style romantic musical styling to a time in which men pulled their blazer sleeves up over their elbows. It's based on the Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore film, natch, and debuted on Broadway in 2006, where it ran for nearly a year. The story remains the same: jilted nice-guy wedding singer falls in love with girl engaged to unloving cad. Cue up the synths and we're in business, people. For tickets call 612.673.0404.
Tuesdays-Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 29, 2 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 30, 1 & 6:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 25. Continues through Sept. 29, 2007
