Sod House Theater, the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Luverne Seifert and Darcey Engen, is touring again this summer with a troupe of some of the Twin Cities' best actors in Friedrich Durrenmont's dark comedy The Visit. Sod House launched in 2011 when Seifert and Engen staged a production of The Cherry Orchard, utilizing local actors and a five-piece polka band, at the historic John Lind House in New Ulm. The project expanded the following year to small towns all across Minnesota. This summer's The Visit, which will tour to Blue Earth and East Grand Forks, gets started this weekend in Albert Lea, which is about an hour-and-a-half drive out of the Twin Cities. The piece stars Barbra Berlovitz as the twisted billionaire Claire Zachanassian, who returns to her hometown with a deadly bargain conceived as an act of revenge on the man who jilted her as a young woman. Also performing along with Seifert and Engen are the wonderful Randy Reyes, Robert Rosen, Elise Langer, and Jason Ballweber, among others, and there will also be performers from the host town onstage each night. Original music has been composed by Eric Jensen. It's definitely worth the drive to check it out. See thevisitalbertlea.brownpapertickets.com for tickets.
