The U.S. Bank Skyway Open
Minnesota's fairways and greens are buried under four feet of snow, and spring may be a 60-degree mirage on the calendar, but these aren't problems when you golf in sky. For the fourth year in a row, Minneapolis's Downtown Network is hosting the U.S. Bank Skyway Open, an 18-hole mini-golf tournament throughout downtown's iconic glassed-in aerial walkways. The holes, designed by local architects and construction companies, are centered on the theme of "Downtown Scene: Minneapolis Arts and Entertainment," a fitting motif given the 19th Hole Celebration, taking place after the tournament from 7 p.m. to midnight on Friday at the Hotel Minneapolis. The party will include free food, drinks, and live music. (You can also buy tickets to the 19th Hole if you're not a putt-putt enthusiast.) Golfers tallying the top three scores will earn prizes, and teams judged to be the best-dressed will also take home an award. All three days of the event are run on a shotgun schedule, which means that golfers are assigned a hole to begin at, rather than having everybody tee off from the first hole. Space is limited, so online registration is recommended at skywayopen.org. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities.
Thu., Feb. 25, 1, 3 & 5 p.m.; Fri., Feb. 26, 1, 3, 5 & 7 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 27, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 2010
