The Tiger Among Us
Mu Performing Arts looks to the Hmong experience in Minnesota — specifically, small-town rural Minnesota — in its latest production, The Tiger Among Us. Playwright Lauren Yee, who had a hit with the world premiere of Ching Chong Chinaman in 2009 at Mu, looks at the life of a Hmong family out in the sticks. Teenager Lia is bored by life in rural Minnesota and isn't looking forward to the coming winter. For her father, November marks the start of hunting season. And for her brother, it's just another day of trying to make a living. Pillsbury House Theatre company member — and leader of the Chicago Avenue Project since 2007 — Ellen Fenster directs the show. The cast includes Maxwell Thao, Gaasong Vang, and Saikong Yang as the family; and Sheng Kong, Claire Bancroft, and Garry Geiken as the show's other characters.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 25. Continues through Feb. 10, 2013
