The Tangential's Future Cities Release Party
The Tangential, an online website whose motto is "Don't be boring, don't suck," is coming out with a new book. Future Cities is a collection of short stories loosely based on the theme of "the future." Its release is one of the ways in which the Tangential hopes to expand beyond the website in the coming months. According to co-founder Jay Gabler, this will also involve hosting more events, working on video projects, and eventually publishing other books. Gabler started the Tangential in January 2011 along with Becky Lang and Katie Sisneros. Most posts on the site consist of creative writing, as well as various forms of nonfiction, including essays commenting on different aspects of society. Their goal is to publish interesting, funny, and creative pieces to be enjoyed by people into academic discourse, cultural studies, pop culture, and "fun things on the internet," he says. The book release and Tumblr meetup will welcome musical guests the Golden Bubbles (featuring Tangential editor Chris Vondracek), Koo Koo Kanga Roo, and @jimfrick of Wak Lyf (curator of technodrome.tumblr.com). There will also be readings from John Jodzio, Tangential regulars, and other contributors.
