The Santaland Diaries
A lot of holiday entertainment is geared toward those with a high tolerance for treacly sentimentality. Enter The Santaland Diaries, an excellent palate-cleanser for those of us with more cynical dispositions. The one-man play, based on an essay by David Sedaris in which he recounts his nightmarish experience as an elf at Macy's department store, offers the insightful, endearing, and occasionally bitchy humor that the author is known for. This year, the Frank Theatre production will be moving to the Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts, and Joe Leary will once again be bringing Crumpet, the testy Christmas Elf, to the stage. Wendy Knox directs. (Photo by Tony Nelson)
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mondays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 13. Continues through Dec. 23, 2013
