The Saint Paul Almanac
The publication of the 2012 Saint Paul Almanac is mere weeks away. In celebration of its sixth edition, the folks who put it together each year will be hosting a variety of happenings in Lowertown St. Paul. First will be an opening reception for an art show at the AZ Gallery. Here, guests will be able to take a sneak peek at some of the artwork, photography, and other creative materials to be featured in the new book. The party takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, September 2. Music will be provided by Jeff Ray & Hurricane Harold Wander, an Americana blues duo. Be sure to stroll about the area and gain an even greater appreciation of our capital city as Lowertown First Fridays will also be in effect during these hours. The following week, almanac enthusiasts should return to the AZ for a fundraiser that will feature poetry readings from Kofi Bobby Hickman, Patrick Coleman, poet laureate Carol Connolly, and others. Sip wine, enjoy appetizers, and snag a free book early from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 8 (suggested contributions for the fundraiser start at $50). Finally, the gallery, along with Black Dog Café and Clouds and Water Zen Center, are hosting a release party starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 15. Many of the poets from the fundraiser will return to read with other almanac contributors, including Molly Culligan, Saymoukda Vongsa, and Louis Alemayehu. (Rudy Arnold)
