The New Orleans Suspects: A Tribute to Lowell George
Unusually usual, the Suspects are renowned around the Crescent City. Mean Willie Green has been the Neville Brothers' drummer for 30-odd years. Reggie Scanlan was the Radiators' bassist. Jake Eckert is lead guitarist for the Dirty Dozen. Saxophonist Jeff Watkins spent a dozen years with James Brown. Keyboardist CR Gruver is a disciple of Booker and Art Neville. The quintet's repertoire, played with that wickedly funky spirit endemic to New Orleans, digs deep into the NOLA canon — Fess, Rads, Meters, Toussaint — and beyond, including the New Orleans-influenced Little Feat, whose late, great Lowell George is the nominal honoree here. But expect sailin' into all things Feat, whose Paul Barrère and Fred Tackett will be on hand to add to the frivolity.
