The National Poster Retrospecticus in Minneapolis
This Saturday, for one night only, fans of print art will be able to see work by the rock stars of gig poster art. The show boasts over 300 hand-printed works from 75 independent talents and organizations, including local favorites like Amy Jo, Landland, Aesthetic Apparatus, and Burlesque of North America (who will be showcasing their projects in an expanded installation), as well as nationally known artists Aaron Draplin, Tara McPherson, and Daniel Danger. The exhibition is traveling throughout the U.S. this month, and is produced and curated by John Boilard, a Boston-based graphic designer. Gig posters include pieces for bands such as Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Monsters of Folk, and Phish. And even if you're not into the band on the poster, you might find yourself loving the art (a common conundrum for a print-art collector). Music for the evening will be provided by DOSH.
