The Minnesota Eye: Contemporary Photography
From Wing Young Huie to Alec Soth, from the Walker Art Museum to the Weinstein Gallery, it's no secret that in recent decades Minnesota's influence on photographic work has increased exponentially. This group show at the College of Visual Arts will explore those achievements by showcasing photography by Minnesota artists. Interesting works include Tom Arndt's snapshots of Catholic priests casually dining in a restaurant, Seth Dow's photographic manipulations fusing Greek architecture with a Coney Island-style coaster, Paul Shambroom's images of politics in action in a small town, and Alec Soth's setting sun on a trailer in Red Wing, among many others. Special events surrounding the show include a photographer panel talk at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 5, and a $10 gallery talk on modern photography led by curator David E. Little at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 8. (Pictured: Ledge, by JoAnn Verburg)
