The Minnesota Beard-Off 2013
This Saturday, First Avenue will host the closest thing to a manly beauty contest. At the Minnesota Beard-Off, judges will take each contestant's facial hair into deep consideration and crown the man with the most epic beard. While many bemoan mustaches and beards as merely a hipster trend, this line of thinking is flawed. Facial hair is, after all, pretty much always in style in some capacity. Iconic beards in time include those grown by King Tut, Karl Marx, Abraham Lincoln, Sigmund Freud, John Lennon, and Jerry Garcia. So tonight's competitors are certainly not in bad company. At the party, creative ladies — and beardless dudes — can enter the freestyle competition as well, where homemade facial beards (think cotton balls, macaroni and glitter, yarn, or other funky materials) will be worn and judged for prizes. Rockers Silverback Colony will provide live music. 18+.
