The Maria Project
As the family-values promoters are fond of pointing out, our immediate loved ones are indeed a source of resilience, heritage, and identity. They are also inevitably as crazy as hell, as we all are under prolonged and intense scrutiny, and the family crucible is invariably rife with unspoken truths and hidden histories. Marcella Goheen's The Maria Project is a solo theater performance that digs into the buried legacy of a Spanish American family, along the way lending voice to those women and children effectively rendered mute by acts of violence. Goheen drops into Open Eye for a two-night run of what is reportedly a powerful and sometimes harrowing work.
