The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

It's no easy thing being a child, with pressure and uncertainty lurking beneath the surface of even the most placid day, not to mention the humdrum routines us grownups burden them with in preparation for their own adulthood. It's no wonder the most resonant children's stories are essentially dreams of escape, from the Peter Pan playing now at Children's Theatre Company to their upcoming holiday production of C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. This should be a hot ticket following the Narnia films, and Adrian Mitchell's adaptation takes our plucky schoolchildren through the titular cabinet, where they meet Aslan the lion and have to locate the bravest corners of their hearts to become mythical royalty. It should happen to us all, really.
