The Eastern Sea
The brainchild of Duluth native Matthew Hines, indie-rock act the Eastern Sea's rich musical melodies didn't start flowing publicly until after a collegiate move to Austin, Texas, in 2005. The 2012 sophomore album Plague features the same sort of evocative downbeat lyricism and stately brass-laden arrangements that have made the National into dour indie-rock kings, but feels like a far different animal by dint of Hines's angelic choir-boy voice. Widely praised on their hometown turf, the band hit the 7th St. Entry tonight primed to head into the studio and record album number three at the close of the tour, and have promised plenty of new material in their headlining set. With Wishbook and Grandchildren. 18+.
