The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
Many fans of the Bard spend their lives trying to complete the ultimate goal of seeing every one of William Shakespeare's plays live. Since there are 37 works on the playwright's résumé, this challenge is harder than it may seem: Some shows are standards (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing) while others make it to the stage far less often (Coriolanus, Timon of Athens). No, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) won't help you complete the circuit, but it does serve as a playful crash course in what to expect from each piece should you reach your goal. Each summer, the Actors Theater of Minnesota players head up to the rooftop lawn of Brit's for a rapid-fire presentation of all 37 works in 97 minutes. The shows are always free and feature three guys in tights, and there are usually drink specials at the bar, so you won't have to sneak in a flask like people typically do at outdoor Shakespeare productions. You may, however, want to bring a blanket to sit on.
Sundays, 6 p.m. Starts: July 8. Continues through July 29, 2012
