The City of Lakes Loppet
This weekend, the City of the Lakes Loppet will entertain folks with a variety of wintertime activities. Sporting events going on at various locations around town include a bike race on a short track made of ice, a race around the Lake of the Isles that allows both humans and dogs to participate, and races for those 18 and under. Special happenings during the weekend festival include a snow sculpting contest, a beer and brats garden, and ski games for children. Saturday night will also feature the Park Nicollet Luminary Loppet, a nighttime hike with luminaries adding to the lovely scenery along the lakes. For a complete schedule and list of locations, visit www.cityoflakesloppet.com. NOTE: Parts of the festival were originally to be hosted at Calhoun Square. Due to weather issues, the Uptown portion of the event have been canceled. However, plenty of fake now has been brought in for events hosted at Theodore Wirth Park. (Photo by Steve Kotvis)
