The Book of Mormon
Didn't get tickets for the touring production of The Book of Mormon, the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit? You are out of luck, unless you want to try your hand at a pre-show lottery. The musical was crafted by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame, and Robert Lopez, whose Broadway credits include Avenue Q. The musical follows a pair of young Mormon missionaries in Uganda, where their attempts to spread the word is thwarted by a brutal warlord and everyday citizens more concerned with violence, poverty, and AIDS. The tour stars Mark Evans (who has a number of West End and U.K. tours to his name) and Christopher John O'Neill (member of the comedy duo The Chris and John Show) as the two missionaries. Names will be collected starting two and a half hours before each performance, and drawn at random, with the winners earning the opportunity to purchase $25 tickets for that evening's show. Winners need to be present at the time of the drawing and show a valid ID to purchase. The lottery started at the Broadway run of the show — sometimes having as many as 800 people attempting to get their hands on the limited seats for that evening's performance — and has been a part of every stop on the tour.
