The BodyCartography Project: Super Nature
"If you could watch a documentary on the Animal Channel only about humans, that's a little bit of the start of how this piece began," says Michele Steinwald, the Walker Art Center's assistant curator for the performing arts, in a promo video. She's talking about the BodyCartography Project's latest work, "Super Nature," a performance about the kineticism and appetites shared by humans and animals, which the Walker commissioned and has its world premiere this weekend. It's an explosive dance work choreographed by BodyCartography founders Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad. But the piece is also part art installation, by Emmett Ramstad, and has a score by Bessie Award-winning composer Zeena Parkins, which will be performed live. The stellar movers include local notables Justin Jones and Emily Johnson — and we rareley see the latter dance anymore, so her presence is a real treat. Eneka Bordato Riano and Francesca Mattavelli, both formerly with the Lyon Opera Ballet, are also part of the cast. (Photo by Gene Pittman, courtesy of the Walker Art Center)
