The Body

The Body is a torrent of relentless, life-hating sludge metal — a Harmony Korine film in the form of a band. Formed by Chip King and Lee Buford in 1999 after a four-month stint in the Blue Man Group, the Body turned heads in extreme music circles long before garnering critical acclaim for their most recent release, 2014's I Shall Die Here, produced by British musician the Haxan Cloak. The album is a marriage between the poignancy of open space and maximum audio brutality, refusing genre boundaries between metal and electronic. Despite abundant distortion and generous slashes of guitar feedback and vocal agony, the Body's live shows are rife with driving tempos and precise percussion producing an undeniable groove. King's vocals rest low in the mix, his primal screams emerging from deep within the harrowing soundscape. For a two-piece, they may be one of the loudest bands you'll ever experience.
