The 8th Annual Dillinger 4th of July

If you're looking for patriotic fervor in the music of Twin Cities punk icons the Dillinger Four, well, they ain't exactly Lee Greenwood. And good thing, too -- classics like "All Rise for the Rational Anthem" ("It's not as simple as the last time/But everybody suffers when we accept the party line"), "Let Them Eat Thomas Paine" ("Tell me are the colors of the flag much prettier to see/When viewed from the requisite comfort of the knees?") and "The Great American Going Out of Business Sale ("Red, white and black eyes forever") envision an America that's been long torn up by the discrepancy between national pride and a disunited reality. The only way to push back is to reclaim the 4th for the people who declare their independence from laissez-faire jingoistic cynicism, and the D4 have provided that valuable service for eight years running. It helps that their broad-yet-smart humor and their full-throttle melodic energy makes their resistance sound more like a party than a lecture. With Dan Padilla, the Slow Death, Bottle Kids. 18+.
