Once a much-maligned liquor associated with college students on spring break, tequila has experienced a renaissance in recent years. While many people prefer to drink it only with a healthy dose of high-fructose corn syrup, not all brands need to be masked with sugar or slammed in a shot glass and followed by desperate flinching and lime-sucking. In fact, some varieties are so sophisticated and smooth in flavor that it is actually recommended that one sip a pour like a decent Scotch. At Tequila 101, participants can learn a more about the varied world of the liquor. Mixologist Brad Smith will take guests through the basics—brands, mixing, and pairings—with tastings of a variety of tequilas, including Ocho, Maestro Dobel, Tres Generecones Plata, Hornito, Sauza Silver, and others. Reservations are required. 21+. (Photo by fakelvis)
