Minnesota may seem like it's all about cheese curds and Juicy Lucys, but in Brooklyn Park this weekend potatoes are where it's at. The annual Brooklyn Park Tater Daze is a time when families can get together and celebrate the root vegetable that has historically helped the community through some trying times. Along with a ton of carnival rides, a craft fair, and a petting zoo, the festival will also have a main stage for music, hosting local talent such as reggae group Les Exodus and rock group the Mixx (who will be reuniting for the performance). Also, if you've never wrestled your friends in a vat of delicious mashed potatoes, then you should step into the ring and see what you've been missing. The event provides fun for the whole family: Adults can enjoy the beer garden and some rousing games of bingo, while the little ones can watch Annette Fragale and her puppet friends or Karl Achilles's mysterious magic show. Later, everyone can regroup and safely shoot potato launchers into the sunset, and watch fireworks together under the summer stars. A parade will start the celebration on Thursday at 6 p.m. Visit taterdaze.org for more details. (Photo by Nisha A)
