Sweet Hot Mess
The art and the edibles will be irresistible this Saturday at "Sweet Hot Mess," an art show and food party at Cult Status Gallery. Local, national, and international artists will exhibit works inspired by cotton candy, icing, ice cream, gum drops, Sour Patch Kids, and other sugary confections. Participants include Caramelaw and Sunae Naoshi (Japan), Jenny Holiday (New Jersey), and Minnesotans DC Ice, Alex Kuno, and Mike Davis. Expect lots of candy-coated visuals with a sweet-and-sour twist. The event, co-curated by Eric Joyner and Rudy Fig, will also feature a cake-decorating contest. Throughout the night, revelers will be able to watch as food artists from bakeries and sweets shops — such as Taste of Scandinavia, Sweets Bakeshop, and Sugar Love Bakery — create a treat inspired by one of the pieces of art on display. A panel of jurors will select a winner at the end of the night, with the help of the crowd. Free. 6 p.m. 2913 Harriet Ave. S., Minneapolis; 612.965.9162. (Photo provided by Caramelaw)
