Station to Station: A Nomadic Happening
This September, artist Doug Aitken and friends will be traveling via train across the United States. The trip, which starts in New York City, includes scheduled stops along the way in Chicago, Santa Fe, and Los Angeles. At each location, the artist will host a slew of activities, such as performances, pop-up art shows, roving art pieces, and other fun, site-specific happenings. For the Minnesota leg of the voyage, Aitken and friends will be visiting the Union Depot in St. Paul. Here, Edible Estate artist and Walker Art Center resident Fritz Haeg will be collaborating with dance troupe BodyCartography Project. Art from talents like Kate Casanova, Meschac Gaba, Kathryn Andrews, and others will be on display as well. Meanwhile, sculptures and installations from Urs Fischer, Kenneth Anger, Ernesto Neto, Carsten Höller, and Liz Glynn will be popping up and roaming throughout the area. Folks providing music and interactive performances include Patti Smith, Eleanor Friedberger, No Age, White Mystery, and more.
