Spring Ale Fest
Discerning beer drinkers of a certain age will undoubtedly recall a time when locally produced ales had all but disappeared from Twin Cities taverns. The remarkable resurgence of craft brewers has subsequently taken on a near mythic significance in beer circles, with early pioneers like Summit revered for daring to challenge the bland ubiquity of mass-produced swell. Emboldened by a growing thirst for distinctive flavors, craft brewers have proven so prosperous that keeping up with each new brewery can be a dizzying proposition — especially after a few pints. The inaugural Spring Ale Fest, hosted by the Ritz Theater in northeast Minneapolis, makes the effort significantly more manageable (and enjoyable). Offering unlimited samples from nine of craft brewing's most notable upstarts, the festival represents a veritable tasting party for beer enthusiasts. Included in the selections will be Minnesota-based ale producers such as Barley John's Brew Pub, Brau Brothers Brewing, Flat Earth Brewing, Harriet Brewing, Lucid Brewing, Mankato Brewing, and Staples Mill Brewing. Out-of-state suds will also be served up by the honored delegations from Idaho's Grand Teton Brewing and Wisconsin's Lucette Brewing. Admission includes not only samples from each brewery, but live music, food trucks, and prize raffles. Hosted in two four-hour sessions, this fest represents the perfect chance for craft-beer lovers to celebrate our barley and hops renaissance. For tickets, visit www.SpringAleFest.com. 21+.
