Spirit in the House
Spiritual-art organization Spirit in the House showcases work that is as diverse in form as it is in viewpoint. Point in fact: The upcoming show at Patrick's Cabaret features storytelling, film, music, and dance, and perspectives range from traditional Christianity to queer tribalism. Some performances may be a bit too wide-eyed, Christian interpretive dance and songs on the evils of pornography being principal examples. But notably, storyteller Amy Salloway has made a name for herself in Twin Cities spoken word as an artist who handles subjects like suicide with an appropriately large helping of dark humor, and when speaking of faith, she will doubtless bring a similarly irreverent perspective. The multitalented performer Leslie Ball isn't known for high irony, but her art lacks any hubris, acknowledging the imperfection of human understanding in a way that is gentle and beautiful. Perhaps even a cold-hearted atheist will find something to enjoy.
