Snow White/No White Fashion Show
Fairytales are definitely in these days, from the onslaught of Snow White-themed movies hitting theaters this year, to local fashion and burlesque shows inspired by fairytales, to City Pages' recent Best Of issue tracking the enchanted aspects of the Twin Cities. Riding this trend, WAM Collective (the Weisman Art Museum's student group) and Northrop's Concerts and Lectures series have teamed up for a special evening where performance and art will intermingle on the catwalk. Snow White/No White Fashion Show will showcase 16 student creations inspired by the darker aspects of fairytale lore — including villainy, murder, and passion — from Ballet Preljocaj's recent production, Snow White. University of Minnesota designers stepped up to the challenge after winning a design contest this spring. And while it may seem easy to throw in a puffy skirt here, some bright colors there, and top it all off with a red ribbon, competing with the ballet's original costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier will be quite a difficult task. However, these fresh looks are a force to be reckoned with. Juut Salonspa will work its magic on the enchanting models of the runway, providing hair and makeup. At the pre-show party, guests will be able to chat with the designers and judges while sipping on WAM's signature cocktail of the evening, the Poisoned Apple. Tickets to this event are now sold out.
