Maia Maiden is back at Patrick's Cabaret with Sistah Solo, two evenings of film, dance music, and spoken word celebrating female artists of color. In 2011, Maiden initiated the Sistah Solo series because she felt there weren't enough opportunities for women of color onstage in the Twin Cities. The show was a hit, and played to sold-out audiences. This weekend, the series is back with a mostly new lineup (and one returning artist, Tish Jones) that includes established performers such as Kenna-Camara Cottman, Andrea Jenkins, and Ellena Schoop, as well as emerging artists. As the title suggests, all of the acts are solos, with the exception of a performance by Al Taw'am (Arabic for "the twins"), 14-year-old twin hip-hop dancers Iman and Khadijah.
