Show Us Your Face!
Strap on your po-mo (that's short for post-modern) thinking cap; it's time to embrace the future of European theatrical art. In the Walker Art Center's latest experimental performance-art exhibition, 10 people will breathe life into a tiny, empty snowsuit as it treks through the 20th century on a philosophical expedition. With actors from the physical theater troupe Betontanc, object theater experts from Umka.lv, and electro-pop beats from the musical group Silence, Show Your Face! is a worldly production mixed with unique puppetry and bold physical performances. The trio of groups involved hail from both Slovenia and Latvia, giving a fresh perspective on original theatrics in the art world. The emotionally touching story holds a philosophical mirror up to society by reflecting a hint of horror, a smattering of humor, and a lot of irony while sending out a hopeful message. The award-winning production is avant-garde theater at its finest, with international collaborators shedding light on the dichotomy between the absurdity and meaningfulness of this era.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 6. Continues through Jan. 8, 2011
