She Rock Festival 2008
She Rock Festival founder Debra G. admits that her motivations for establishing this two-day music fest were selfish. Unfamiliar with so many female performers in the Twin Cities music scene, she wanted to create an event where she could meet and showcase women in music all in one place. Enter the first annual She Rock Festival, which will host a mind-boggling list of sisters doing it for themselves. There will be two stages; one will host a variety of music styles while the other, smaller, stage will spotlight spoken-word artists. Hardcore street punkers the Menstrual Tramps, throw-back musicians the God Damn Doo Wop Band, spoken-word/hip-hop artist Desdamona, and pop/jazz artist Alicia Wiley are just a few of the women slated to perform. Painter Anna Miller will be displaying her work, and food and drink specials will be available each night. 21+.
Fri., Sept. 19, 7 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 20, 3 p.m., 2008
