Set Theory: New paintings by Jim Dryden

Perhaps best known for his abstract paintings brimming with engagingly colorful imagery, artist Jim Dryden has lately been exploring the writings of German mathematician Georg Cantor. Specifically, he's become intrigued with Cantor's set theory, now a fundamental principle of mathematics. In his new work, Dryden explores chaos, structure, and relationships, using overlapping circular forms that purposefully careen across abstract settings. Swaths of color create backgrounds, highlights, and correspondences among oblongs and circles. The result is worlds in which interlocking sets gather with communal grace. There will be a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 21.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 19. Continues through Oct. 26, 2013
